The Healthy Back Program

What is the Healthy Back Program?

The Healthy Back Workout at Back2Strength is a research-based exercise program specially designed for people with chronic back pain. The program features the use of the MedX Lumbar Spine machine – computerized equipment that safely isolates, tests, strengthens, and rehabilitates the multifidus muscles of the lumbar spine.

Published research demonstrates an 80% success rate for people in pain suffering with conditions such as arthritis, herniated discs, sciatic nerve pain, and degenerative joint disease.  Strengthening the deep spinal muscles over a two to three-month period with the MedX Lumbar Spine machine will significantly reduce or eliminate chronic pain and improve functional abilities.

The Healthy Back Workout is comprised of 5 steps:

Step # 1 – Evaluate the strength and flexibility of the lumbar spinal musculature
Step # 2 – Compare your results to data considered normal for gender, age and size.  If  weakness is present, move to step #3
Step # 3 – Rebuild the strength and flexibility of the lumbar spinal musculature
Step # 4 – Re-evaluate the strength and flexibility of the lumbar spinal musculature
Step # 5 – Maintenance and prevention

What sets the Healthy Back Workout apart from other treatments is our focus on restoring normal function through progressive resistance exercises on specialized weight-training equipment.  Many treatments provide temporary symptom relief, but the Healthy Back Workout provides a lasting solution by treating the root cause of ongoing pain and disability – weakened muscles that support and stabilize the lumbar spine (sarcopenia).

Why is this program so successful in treating chronic back pain?

  1. Over 50 clinical studies utilizing the MedX Lumbar Spine machine have shown incredible success with chronic spinal pain.
  2. It is very time efficient – one or two 20 minute sessions a week.
  3. Treatment is progressive and your musculature is challenged to grow stronger.
  4. Provides personalized one-on-one coaching.
  5. The program is measurable and driven by physical improvements.
  6. Strength-training protocols that are proven to be 59% better than other programs.
  7. Training is incredibly safe utilizing state of the art slow motion strength-training equipment.
  8. Very cost effective.

The primary focus is to provide a lasting solution for chronic back pain!

Let us explain…

Chronic back pain is a very expensive and prevalent problem in the United States.  More people visit their doctor for low-back pain symptoms than any other reason except for the common cold. Treatment often consist of pain medication and instructions to stretch and “take it easy” for awhile. But what happens if the pain persists or comes and goes on a regular basis? What do you do then?

People with chronic back pain want to know why they have this pain. What is causing the ongoing symptoms? And what can they do to get rid of it? A good portion of available treatments are designed to treat the symptoms, to make you feel better but often do not get to the underlying cause of the pain.

People with chronic back pain were significantly weaker than the people who had no pain.”

One man, Arthur Jones (inventor of Nautilus equipment), suggested that the root cause of chronic back pain may be related to muscle weakness and developed a machine that provided a valid and repeatable means to test the strength of the lower back musculature. The first research on this machine was conducted at the University of Florida’s College of Medicine under the supervision of Exercise Physiologist Michael Pollock Ph.D., the past President of the American College of Sports Medicine. The initial research conducted by Dr. Pollock compared healthy back strength to patients with chronic back pain. The results were dramatically clear – people with chronic back pain were significantly weaker than the people who had no pain.

Next, the researchers tested what effect strengthening these underdeveloped muscles would have on the painful symptoms. Again, the results were very clear and, in many cases, almost unbelievable for the patients.  About 80% of the patients with chronic back pain rated the muscle strengthening treatment as providing excellent or good results.  These were patients who had tried and failed many other treatments (average of 6), including “supervised exercise,” with little or no success.

The early success of this new approach to treat chronic back pain was promising and other researchers worldwide soon followed with their own studies. Over 50 published studies confirmed the fact that most chronic back pain could be significantly reduced or eliminated by strengthening the muscles of the lumbar spine (called the multifidi) using the MedX Lumbar Spine machine developed by Arthur Jones.

Life is continuously presenting us with many decisions where we HAVE to be able to say yes to if we want the best quality of life. We hear it every day........."if you don't play, you can't win," "if you don't use it you lose it," "you'll never know if you'll like it if you don't try it." Similarly, if you don't give your body what it needs (nutrition, energy, exercise, etc.....), you'll never feel at your very best. Make the decision to break away from the normal and easy cycle of saying "i'll do it eventually, I know I will. I just need to wait until it's the right moment and I have the time to start." No excuses, get out and start giving your body what it needs.......once you see even the smallest of positive changes, you'll be hooked and you won't want anything different! #back2strength #strengthismedicine #investinyourhealth ...
